PETALING JAYA: Going to war is not the way to resolve conflict in a civilised world, adviser to the Malaysians for Peace Alliance Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said.

“It would only cause immense suffering to innocent lives, especially children. Waging war is not going to benefit anyone, except satisfy the ego and arrogance of those who are bent on going to war irrespective of world opinion,” he said in a press statement.

Lee welcomed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s statement that Malaysia would not support any country, including the United States and its allies, in waging war against Iraq even if the United Nations allowed it.

“Malaysia’s stand is highly commendable. As a small but peaceful nation, Malaysia is able to demonstrate to the world that it is totally committed to world peace and against war as a solution to conflict,” he said.

Meanwhile, Cosmopoint Sdn Bhd, an ICT training and education provider, has collected 10,000 signatures in support of the Malaysians for Peace campaign.

Its president Datuk Idrus Mohd Satha handed over the signature forms to Umno Youth exco member Ismail Sabri, who was at the centre.
