PETALING JAYA: Hip-hop icon Warren G gave fans of local heroes Too Phat a big surprise when he included his song, Just A Lil’ Bit, in the group’s latest album.
The single by this ambitious, Grammy-nominated, platinum-plus artiste (who is also performer, producer, actor and businessman) was launched over key radio stations here recently, drawing an enthusiastic response and an avalanche of questions from fans.
The catchy track was produced in Malaysia by G-Soul, and special remixes were done by Eka, with Damian Shortysoul and Illegal.
After the track was recorded here, it was sent to US for Warren G’s recording. Warren G was quite impressed by Too Phat and sent a heart-warming note: “Warren G and G-Funk (his backup group) supports Too Phat all the way!”
“This is very exciting for us. To have a collaboration with one of the true superstars of hip-hop is a dream come true,” said Joe Flizzow of Too Phat.
The collaboration came about when Yaniz Merican, an agent contracted by Positive Tone Records, informed them that Warren G was interested to work with Too Phat.
“This is great for Malaysian music. This is the best opportunity we have had so far to try and introduce Malaysian music to the world market,” said Ahmad Izham Omar, head honcho of Positive Tone.
Too Phat’s new album, 360 degrees, will be released in Malaysia on Feb 20, while releases in Indonesia, Singapore and the Philippines have also been confirmed.
