Cops bust Ecstasy pill processing plant

PENANG: Police busted the country’s biggest Ecstasy pill processing plant in Tanjung Bungah with the seizure of 15kg of Ecstasy powder worth about RM500,000 on Saturday. 

A Balik Pulau Narcotics Department team had earlier arrested a couple, in their 40s, in Batu Maung following a tip-off. 

The couple, who had 75 Ecstasy pills with them, subsequently led police to a house in Tanjung Bungah. 

Police also seized some 15kg of the methamphetamine-based powder, which could be processed into more than 15,000 pills. 

The team, which had been monitoring the couple’s activities for quite some time, also seized an assortment of jewellery, cash and pills from the premises under the Forfeiture of Properties Act. 

Investigations showed that couple usually processed the pills early in the morning so as not to arouse the suspicion of the neighbours. 

The pills were distributed to as far as Kuala Lumpur and Johor. 

It is learnt that the duo, who had been active for quite some time, had since been remanded for two weeks pending investigations. More arrests can be expected over the next few days. 

The seizure of the Ecstasy powder, was the largest in the country this year. 

The case has been classified as trafficking under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
