Enhanced jail term, caning for man for second rape

MUAR: A father who is serving a 16-year jail sentence and receiving eight strokes of the rotan for raping a 15-year-old girl in September last year, was yesterday sentenced to a further 18 years’ jail and ordered to be given 12 strokes of the rotan after he pleaded guilty to raping an 11-year-old girl. 

Bachik Abdul Rahman, 29, a father of two children, pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Mohd Fauzi Nasir after the charge was submitted by deputy public prosecutor Abdul Rashid Daud. 

According to the charge, the man, who was not represented, was alleged to have raped the 11-year-old girl in Ladang Felcra Batu 18, Air Hitam, near here, between 6.45pm and 8.50pm on Sept 19, 2001. 

In mitigation, Bachik asked the court for a lenient sentence and also asked for the jail sentence to run concurrently with the present jail term, saying that he had repented.Abdul Rashid pressed for a deterrent sentence.
