Covid-19: 19 new cases, death toll now at 116

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 19 new Covid-19 cases on Friday (June 5), bringing the total number of infections to 8,266 cases.

There was also one death recorded, the first reported in 14 days. The death toll is now 116.

The patient was of a 61-year-old Malaysian man who had history of diabetes, high-blood pressure and kidney disease.

Of the 19 new cases, seven were imported cases, while the others were local transmissions.

Health Ministry director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the local transmissions involved three foreigners and nine Malaysians.

Dr Noor Hisham also said 51 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, with a total of 6,610 patients discharged since the Covid-19 outbreak began or a 80% recovery rate of all cases.

There are currently 1,540 active cases being treated at the country’s health facilities.

"Currently, six patients are being treated at the intensive care unit (ICU) with one of them on ventilator support," he said during his daily press briefing on Friday.
