THE capture of the western Sudanese city of el-Fasher in late October marked a bloody milestone in Sudan’s nearly three-year civil war.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the paramilitary group battling the Sudanese army, seized control of the capital of North Darfur, claiming almost total dominion over the region.
