A LATE-night Uber ride from Toronto’s Pearson Airport into the city usually means a good fare for drivers. But not for Sachindeep Singh on the night of Sept 19.

A few kilometres into his drive, Singh’s Uber app suddenly stopped working. Unbeknownst to him, his work permit had expired at midnight. And, like Canada, Uber was putting him on notice.
