TARCian Run scales new heights

All smiles: Prof Lee and Chan (back row, eighth and ninth from left, respectively) posing for a photo with participants after the run.

The ninth TARCian Run ended on a high — literally, with runners crossing the finish line on the rooftop of Arena, Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology’s (TAR UMT) brand-new student activity hub.

Describing the Sept 13 event as “iconic”, TAR UMT board of governors and alumni council chairman Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy said it was an incredible accomplishment to have more than 7,000 runners register for the 2025 edition of the run.

“It proves how the TARCian Run has grown over the past 10 years. It is inspiring to see such great enthusiasm for our TARCian Run and this is thanks to the strong support of the whole TARCian community, friends, sponsors and fellow Malaysians,” Chan said at the closing ceremony of the event.

TARCian Run has been a TAR UMT tradition since it was first held in 2015.

Today, it is a celebratory occasion that unites TAR UMT students, staff and family members, alumni, and the public in the spirit of friendship and togetherness.

Also joining the run this year were students, teachers and parents of SMJK Chong Hwa KL, and Chong Hwa Independent High School.

Chan, SMJK Chong Hwa KL and Chong Hwa Independent High School board of governors chairman Tan Sri Lim Keng Cheng, TAR UMT president Prof Datuk Dr Lee Sze Wei, TARC Education Foundation board of trustees member Datuk Seri Yew Teong Look, and Lebuhraya DUKE Fasa 3 Sdn Bhd general manager (business development) Datuk Ahmad Faisal Abdul Karim, were present to flag the runners off.

Runners were brimming with excitement at the starting line located at the refurbished main entrance of TAR UMT, and were treated to a scenic journey along the Setiawangsa-Pantai Expressway (SPE) during the 7km fun run.

The route ended at TAR UMT Arena with runners sprinting up six floors to claim their reward — a well-deserved finisher’s medal and a breathtaking view of the varsity’s campus grounds from Skyfield, the rooftop running track and field.

TARCian Run 2025 organising committee member Eyu Xin Ying said the experience gave the team first hand insights into how much work it takes to ensure the event’s success.

“All my peers who are in the committee enjoyed the process of planning and executing such a huge project.

“Despite the challenges, this experience definitely helped us in our own personal growth and development of soft skills which will be valuable in our future career paths,” said the varsity’s Bachelor of Finance and Investment (Hons) student.
