Congratulations: (From left) Lee, Tay, Prof Lee, TAR UMT Perak Branch head Dr Joanne Yim Sau Ching, Nur Naili and Teo at the event.

THE more one explores university life, the more one can gain from it.

With this abiding belief, Tay Xiu Bao began her diploma studies at Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT), and it had served her well.

At the 25th convocation ceremony held at the varsity’s Perak branch recently, Tay not only received her Diploma of Communication and Media Studies, but also took home the Book Prize, which is a special honour awarded to five outstanding students for their academic achievements.

She said in a TAR UMT press release that despite the ups and downs, she considered her diploma journey “a great experience”.

Fellow Book Prize recipients Nur Naili Hanafi and Lee Mei Ting, who received their Diploma in Business Administration and Diploma in E-Marketing, respectively, also expressed joy at their accomplishments.

Having a positive mindset and studying smart, they said, were key to their success.

Diploma in Accounting graduate Hee Qiu Lian and Diploma in Culinary Arts graduate Adam Nathaniel Teo Kuang Shen also received the award at the event held on March 25.

In his address, TAR UMT president Prof Dr Lee Sze Wei applauded all 103 graduates for successfully completing their diploma studies in the disciplines of social science and humanities, communication and creative industries, accountancy, finance and business, as well as computing and information technology (IT), at the varsity.

He also drew attention to the varsity’s three strategic priorities, namely, excellence in education, mission-driven research and knowledge creation; operations optimisation; and sustainability-driven.

“This illustrious higher education institution aims to become a leading university capable of transforming the future,” he said.

In a separate development, TAR UMT Perak Branch recently forged industrial partnerships with three companies from the IT and ecommerce industries, namely, EGroup Tech Sdn Bhd, Exacom Solutions Sdn Bhd and KK Smart E-Commerce Sdn Bhd.

These collaborations were aimed at equipping students with industrial exposure and skills development in preparation for the workforce upon graduation.
