A RESEARCH management agency must be formed to help coordinate research and development (R&D) efforts between the different bodies if Malaysia is to become a developed nation by the year 2030.

To address the country’s science, technology and innovation (STI) ecosystem that is “still not up to par”, Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) president Prof Emerita Datuk Dr Asma Ismail said the governance for STI and socio-economic development must also be transparent with proper coordination between the federal and state authorities.

“We need to address the policies being made and the separation between state and federal jurisdictions,” she said.
