THE University of Southampton Malaysia (UoSM) is set to host its August Open Days for students considering a future in engineering, with the academics and students encouraging everyone to come down to Johor and get a feel of the courses on offer.
The university will be hosting two Open Days on Aug 17 and 24 at the Malaysia campus within the EduCity development in Iskandar Puteri, Johor. The Open Days begin at 10am and end at 4pm.
UoSM is the only foreign branch campus in Malaysia to offer split campus – two years in Malaysia followed by two years in the UK degree programmes in Engineering.
The university offers a range of engineering programmes, which include Engineering Foundation Year, MEng in Aeronautics and Astronautics, MEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and MEng in Mechanical Engineering.
Each undergraduate programme offers a variety of specialisations designed to meet the demands of various industries and trends for future development.
Moreover, a new programme called Industrial Placement Year was launched recently for full-time MEng (Masters of Engineering) students of UoSM. The programme allows students to add another year-long paid placement in an engineering organisation based in the UK.
UoSM is among the top 20 most targeted universities by the top 100 graduate recruiters* and is ranked 16th best university in the UK** and in the top 120 in the world for employability***.
Here’s what to expect - during Open Day, visitors can expect a range of courses and free hands-on workshops on topics such as engineering design, flight simulator, python programming and more.
These are made available for those considering engineering as a route towards a successful and fulfilling career. The Open Day will enable visitors to meet the university’s academics, existing students as well as graduates.
The university’s Recruitment, Admissions and Marketing head, Jon Inegbedion said the Open Day gives a chance for the university to highlight its commitment and support for potential students throughout their studies. He encourages students considering a career in engineering to attend the event and find out more.
“The next generation of engineers can look to find their place with us here at the University of Southampton Malaysia. You are joining a culture of excellence. Our students, faculty and staff come from very interesting and different backgrounds– intellectually, ethnically, economically and geographically, a distinguishing feature that makes studying at Southampton Malaysia a truly unique experience.”
In addition to meeting graduates and current students, visitors can look forward to learning more about the university’s scholarships, financing options and student accommodation, touring the EduCity complex and experiencing the different class activities.
Furthermore, the university is offering early-bird discounts worth RM1,500 (engineering foundation year) and RM2,500 (undergraduate) for students who apply, accept the offer and pay the deposit early. The deadlines are Aug 16 and 30, respectively.
All visitors are welcome and the staff in attendance will be happy to answer any further questions.
