Two for Aussie uni games

TWO students from Monash University Malaysia’s Sunway campus will participate in the upcoming Australian University Games (AUG) as part of the men’s football squad.

Mohd Syed Alsree and Khairul Hakimi Abdul Latif beat more than 40 of their peers to secure places in the team during a selection session that was held in July.

According to Brett Lavale, Site Leader for Monash Sport based in the Clayton campus in Melbourne, “both students were impressive in the recent trials, the practice game against the local club side and at the National Indoor Futsal Tournament.”

Lavale said Alsree and Khairul would fill key roles in the Monash AUG men’s football team.

“This is a great opportunity for us. We hope that the team will do well this year, especially since we will be playing at Monash and will be getting support from the home crowd,” said Alsree.

He added, “It will be the second time I’m playing in the AUG. I was part of the team last as an exchange student there under the Monash Abroad programme.”

The AUG is the largest annual multi-sport event for Australian university athletes.

A total of 28 sports for teams and individuals will be played this year and 6,500 students from 42 universities across Australia are expected to take part in the games.
