ACCORDING to a language expert, 40% of students around the world fail to master foreign languages because the teachers rely mainly on textbooks.
Dr Brian Tomlinson, head of Leeds Metropolitan University’s School of Languages Postgraduate, Research and Consultancy Unit, said most teachers in under-developed countries have no choice but to rely heavily on textbooks to teach foreign languages including English.
