AS IF the economic and political competition posed by the European Union has not created enough challenges for other regions in the world, plans are underway for a unified higher education area in Europe.
Called the Bologna Process, this initiative sees 45 European countries embarking on a major programme of reform to their higher education systems to build a European Higher Education Area (EHEA) by 2010.
