CONTINUING its commitment to education and community, The Star Learning Skills programme, in its sixth year, charts a significant milestone as it ties up with MCA's Lifelong Learning Campaign.
Recently launched by MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting, The Star Learning Skills programme is aimed at giving people the opportunity to better themselves in various fields, both in theory and practice.
A wide variety of programmes (see list below) are in store this year and will be made available for Malaysians of all ages to pick up new skills for self-development.
1. Etiquette & Protocol in Malaysia and Beyond
Pick up invaluable tips on the dos and don'ts on issues related to Protocol, Dining and Social Etiquette.
2. PC for the Non PC Savvy
Discover the benefits of using a word processor and how spreadsheets can be useful. Explore the wonders of the Internet. This workshop is a must for PC beginners – whether you are a professional, homemaker, retiree or student.
3. Personal Taxation Simplified
Be enlightened on Malaysian taxation laws and the responsibilities and rights of taxpayers.
4. The 5Ws and 1H of antiques
The workshop allows both collectors and potential collectors to learn more about antiques and their value.
5. Home & Yard: Greenfingers
Participants will be taught how to design and construct their home garden.
6. Appreciating Music
The workshop introduces the participants to the different periods, genres and forms of classical music as well as famous composers and their music.
7. How to De-stress
Learn how to relax and de-stress from work pressures and other demands. Pick up relaxation techniques that will make a difference to a stressful life.
8. Digital Photography
Learn how to take great pictures using your digital camera and how to use various software tools to make them even better!
9. Home & Yard : Enriching Your Living Space
Gain simple basic tips and hints on interior design in keeping with one’s lifestyle.
10. Computer Security
Learn how to prevent computer viruses, hackers, exploit attacks, spam and fraud; how to set-up and configure a firewall and to scan for viruses; and change Windows settings to improve your PC’s security.
11. Creative Digital Imaging – Beyond the Basics
Digital and video camera buffs can learn how to transfer audio and video files from the camera to the computer (Import audio and video files into movie-editing software) as well as basic editing techniques, tilting and effects.
12. An Insight into Gems and Crystals
Learn to distinguish the real thing from the fake. Discover the qualities to look for in diamonds, semi-precious stones and crystals.
13. Star Gazing: Basics in Astronomy
The workshop provides an insight into astronomy and a chance for participants to learn, plan and conduct astronomical observing sessions.
14. Flash your apps!
Learn to create graphics and text, create and manipulate simple and complex animations, create and modify sound effects, and various techniques for presentation and publishing.
15. Presentation Skills - Speaking Effectively
The workshop will provide participants with an overview of the different types of speeches as well as how to plan, write and deliver the speeches.
16. Personal Finance Simplified
Gain insights into personal finance. The workshop will cover topics such as Financial Planning, Stocks & Shares, Unit Trusts, and Wills & Trusts.
17. Introduction to Great Western Thinkers and Great Oriental Thinkers
The workshop will focus on the thinkers and philosophers from the West and East, highlighting their thoughts and influences on the world.
18. PC Maintenance and Trouble Shooting
The course will touch on operating systems and applications, troubleshooting and understanding the internal workings of a PC and printers.
19. Be Media Savvy – practical hints & tips on dealing with the Malaysian media
This two-day workshop guides participants on effective ways of dealing with the media.
20. Study Tour – London Fashion Week 2005
Gain valuable insights into the London fashion industry. The tour includes special fashion and life style workshops at the renowned Central St Martin's, and visits to fashion events in conjunction with the London Fashion Week.
