Simply Science!

CAN you differentiate between a mammal and a reptile? How do you measure different physical quantities? Do you give thought to what you eat every day? What are the effects of cigarette smoke on our respiratory system?

Find out the answers through the interesting activities in Simply Science, the first Star-NiE supplement to hit schools that uses The Star for science lessons.

The supplement hopes to help students enjoy learning science and provide teachers with a current and lively approach towards teaching science. There are many newspaper-in-education activities for primary and secondary school students to get their hands on to beef up their knowledge of science.

Students also get to read about current topics like the tsunami in Stuff@school, an eight-page pullout on issues and goings-on in schools and the community. This week, we look at a favourite Malaysian grouse – rudeness.

Do we lack manners? Has anyone branded you rude? What's your opinion? Stuff@school gets a low-down from teachers and students on what they consider rude. Have you ordered your copy?

This issue will only be available with the NiE supplement to schools which subscribe to The Star

Supplements for the month of February will be published on the following dates.

Feb 2 – English (schools issue)

Feb 16 – English (national issue)

Feb 23 – Science (schools issue)

Because of the Chinese New Year public holidays, there will not be a supplement on Feb 9.

Star-NiE offers a special deal to schools that order The Star in bulk for NiE lessons – a 50% discount for each copy ordered. For more details, contact The Star's customer care unit at 03-7967 1777 or the circulation staff closest to you.
