ST PAUL'S Institution in Seremban emerged second runner-up in the pre-university category at the National Physics Olympiad organised by the Physics Institute of Malaysia and the Education Ministry.
A total of 923 students took part in the competition, which was held at 82 centres throughout the country on July 26. An award presentation ceremony was held at Hotel Armada in Petaling Jaya, on Sept 26.
All the hard work and training finally paid off for the winning members from the SPI team: Chua Wen Hau, Tee Kian Yew, Fong Yu Cheng, Prabu Rao Sri Rao and Lee Chin Choo.
SPI team's adviser Lai Meow Leon said the students trained intensively for three months prior to the Olympiad. “SPI and Negri Sembilan have won a prize for the first time. This is the 11th edition of the competition,’’ she said.
An annual Physics competition for high school level students, the competition is for teams of five students. Individual competitors sit for intensive theoretical and laboratory examinations. For their efforts, the students are awarded gold, silver, or bronze medals or certificates of credit.
Malaysian Invention and Design Society president Tan Sri Augustine Ong gave away the prizes.
