Case study No. 1

NEIL wanted to study film and aspired to be a filmmaker. When he expressed his intent to his father, all he got was a resounding “No!” His father, a lecturer, was not convinced that such a career move would benefit his son, especially financially.

“It’s a hard life without money ? you will realise this when you start working and have a family. You cannot live without knowing where your next pay cheque is coming from,” said Neil’s father, who proposed that his son take up law, a well-respected and financially sound career. Reluctantly, Neil went with his father to several colleges, looking for the best law programme. Neil desperately did not want to become a lawyer but did not know how to convince his father that law was not his “cup of tea”.
