JOHOR BARU: Civil servants should remain relevant in the current work environment by having a more innovative mentality said Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa.
He stressed that it is important for civil servants to uphold the country’s public service to a higher level but questioned whether the sector was able to handle the current challenges and meet the expectations of the rakyat.
“As a civil servant, we must realise and understand that the hopes and patterns towards the public service have changed over the last few years.
“The demands and will of the rakyat towards civil servants are now quite high. We must deliver a more competent and effective service,” he said.
Ali said this in his speech, which was read out by Public Service director-general Tan Sri Mohamad Zabidi Zainal at the Innovative and Creative (KIK) Group Convention on Thursday.
He added that civil servants should pay attention and focus through continuous development and creativity within themselves.
“To understand it further, civil servants should not only think outside the box but must go beyond the normal requirement and take innovative action,” he said.
Ali added that greater challenges await the public sector ahead as civil servants are the backbone of the country’s development.
He said that it is important to use creativity and innovation in ensuring Malaysia continues to be competitive and able to overcome challenges successfully.
He urged KIK groups to continue with their efforts and be active in creating quality projects that are competitive, in line with the needs of the rakyat.
“I believe that there is room for improvement for civil servants and they are able to create new ideas for their respective departments,” he said.
