Ethiopian Airlines, China Southern Airlines sign codeshare agreement to boost China-Africa connectivity

ADDIS ABABA, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopian Airlines and China Southern Airlines have signed a codeshare agreement to deepen cooperation and expand connectivity across Africa, China and beyond.

Ethiopian Airlines, the largest airline in Africa and one of the fastest-growing airline brands globally, said in a statement issued Wednesday that the new agreement aims to deepen cooperation between the two carriers on direct services between China and Ethiopia, alongside extended regional air markets.

By leveraging the networks of both airlines, the codeshare partnership is expected to offer passengers seamless transfers to destinations across Africa and China, according to the Ethiopian flag carrier.

The agreement comes as China Southern Airlines officially launched a new twice-weekly passenger service on Tuesday, connecting Guangzhou in southern China with Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa, via Changsha in central China.

Addressing the launch event, Zeng Yongchao, executive vice president of China Southern Air Holding Company, said the route will create business opportunities, facilitate the movement of people and goods, and connect China and Africa toward a shared and prosperous future.
