Five beauty queens bag coveted international titles in pageant


IT WAS a star-studded event when the winners of five coveted grand slam and major international titles were named at the Miss Global International Malaysia 2014 (MGIM 2014) grand finale gala night at DoubleTree by Hilton recently.

The titles were Miss International, Miss Supranational, Miss Intercontinental, Miss Globe International and World Miss University.

Jayarubini Sambanthan, a 22-year-old accounting and finance student from Kuala Lumpur, was crowned Miss International Malaysia and will be representing the country at the world level in Tokyo, Japan.

Jayarubini, who also won the Miss Body Beautiful Strip sub-title, cemented her win with her inspiring response during the final question-and-answer round, where she was asked about beauty queens as role models.

Audrey Loke, a 22-year-old interior designer and blogger from Selangor clinched the Miss Supranational Malaysia title and will be heading to the world finals in Poland in December.

She also won three subsidiary titles — Miss Charm International, Miss Face on 5th Perfect and Miss Talent.

Miss Intercontinental Malaysia was won by 20-year-old Nicole Bungan from Miri, who will compete at the upcoming world finale in Jordan while 20-year-old freelance model Wendy Foo from Johor took home the Miss Globe International Malaysia title as well as Miss Personality subtitle.

A medical student from Kuching, 22-year-old Naomi Sim is the newly crowned World Miss University Malaysia.

Other subsidiary titles were awarded to Mico Pun (Miss XES Elegant by XES Shoes, Miss Congeniality RedOne and the public voted Miss Popularity by Delirium Concept), and Serene Chai (Miss Photogenic by Peoplegraphy Studio and Miss JD Personality).

“We are so proud of the dedication, enthusiasm and effort every finalist has shown throughout the pageant week and we truly recognise every finalist as a winner,” said MerveilleuxM Production managing director Marlene Lim,

Judges included the first Malaysian and Asian to win the Mrs Universe 2013 title, Carol Lee, as well as Miss Malaysia World 1994 winner Rahima Orchient Yayah

During the 10-day pageant week, the 19 finalists toured around Kuala Lumpur, participating in personal enrichment, cultural and charitable activities.

The public also had the chance to meet the finalists at MGIM’s Talent Night held at Paradigm Mall and Bikini Preview Show at Signature at The Roof during the week.

Part of the funds raised will be channelled to Persatuan Autistik Miri.
