KUCHING: Sarawak Association for Peoples’ Aspiration (Sapa) will hold a bilingual public forum at Hotel Grand Continental Kuching on July 20.
The forum is being organised in conjunction with the commemoration of July 22, 1963 as the date of self-government when Stephen Kalong Ningkan (now Tan Sri) was sworn-in as Sarawak’s first chief minister.
The forum will focus on the Malaysia Agreement signed on July 9, 1963 which gave birth to the formation of the Federation of Malaysia about three months later on Sept 16.
The Mandarin session of the forum will be from 1pm to 3pm, while the English session will be from from 3pm to 5pm.
Speakers for the English session are Peter John Jaban and Lina Soo.
Peter is no stranger to Sarawakians as the voice of Radio Free Sarawak, which has won international acclaim as the winner of Communication for Social Change Award 2014 from University of Queensland and Free Media Pioneer Award from International Press Institute.
He is one of the recipients of World 100 Information Heroes awarded by Reporters Without Borders and has also received the title of Panglima from the governor of Kalimantan.
Speakers for the Mandarin session are Dr Francis Ngu and Emily Ngu.
Sapa is a human rights NGO active in conducting forums and talks on human rights, specifically advocating the right of self-determination for Sarawak.
