RAPIDKL celebrated its 10th anniversary by launching the RapidKL Travel Planner mobile application to help passengers plan their journey.
Available on iOS and Android devices, users can now get updates on RapidKL rail and bus services instantly.
The mobile app also provides information on service frequency, operating hours, travel instructions and includes a fare calculator.
RapidKL, an arm of Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana), said the mobile app was another step in improving its services to the public.
“We have made great strides in the first 10 years and we aim to progress further as we approach 2020,” said Prasarana Group managing director Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar.
Currently, RapidKL has a daily ridership of 550,000 and it is expected to double once the new lines are ready.
The first phase of the Ampang and Kelana Jaya LRT line extensions will commence operations by October next year.
Shahril said Prasarana’s next project would be a line extension from Bandar Utama to Johan Setia in Klang.
“With additional trains and the increased capacity of our new trains, the number of passengers is expected to increase,” he said.
Based on the data from Imperial College London’s Railway and Transport Strategy Centre (RTSC), RapidKL ranks as the fourth most reliable train operator in the Nova Group of Metros.
The Nova Group of Metros comprise 16 medium-sized rail operators from major cities in the world like the Dockland Light Railway London and Sydney Trains.
“We were also ranked third for frequency. It is a testament to the fact that we are of global standard and are ahead of many rail operators in the world,” he said.
Also present were Prasarana Group chairman Tan Sri Ismail Adam and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib.
“I’m grateful to all the local councils, especially DBKL, for helping us provide public transport to the people,” said Ismail.
He added that Prasarana hopes to expand its services to other bigger cities in the country.
Meanwhile, the mayor praised Prasarana for making Kuala Lumpur a public transport friendly city.
“Thanks to RapidKL, public transport here is seen as a reliable mode of transport,” said Ahmad Phesal, who is also the 10th Kuala Lumpur mayor.
During the celebration, there were also music performances, lucky draws and a flash mob performance featuring over 1,000 employees from all levels and subsidiaries including RapidPenang and RapidKuantan.
The flash mob danced to RapidKL’s official song titled Connecting Aspirations (Menghubungkan Impian).
