THE Year of the Horse will soon be upon us and the festive feel of Chinese New Year is in the air.
In this week’s Star Online poll, we asked our readers what they look forward to most during Chinese New Year.
Out of 3,794 respondents, 1,322 (32%) voted open house (visiting family/friends) as the thing they looked forward to the most while 700 respondents (18%) voted receiving ang pow.
Coming in third was feasting on CNY cookies /snacks with 660 votes (17%).
Others voted for yee sang, comprising 432 respondents (11%), lion dance with 409 respondents (10%) and buying new clothes with 371 respondents (9%).
A total of 39 countries participated in the poll, with the top five being Malaysia, Singapore, the United States and Hong Kong.
Despite people’s hectic schedules, it is nice to see that the tradition of upholding family reunions and camaraderie among friends still prevail.
We took the survey to our Facebook followers and some shared their views on what they looked forward to for CNY.
“Arrowroot crisps (already eating them before CNY) and crisp new ringgit notes from the bank,” said one Facebook follower.
Another Facebook follower said she was excited to see the lion dance performance.
“I always get a thrill from watching it,” she said.
One Facebook follower said she was looking forward to buying new clothes.
“Chinese New Year is the only time when I buy new clothes. Also, I am excited to feast on the cookies and treats. Although you can get most of the delicacies all year round now, it is extra special to eat it during CNY,” she said, adding that she was looking forward to the empty roads in Klang Valley when most people balik kampung.
