BROTHER Bosco was no ordinary headmaster at St Thomas Primary School in Kuantan when I enrolled into Standard One (Year One) in 1968.

Even in his white cassock, he could sprint after pupils on the field with a cane and give them a slap or a sharp rebuke for misbehaviour.
