Ravishing and vanishing fantasy

THE most mystifying words for children are “It’s Magic!”

This time Resorts World Genting has brought in a troop of magicians to provide magic and lots of laughter.

The show, dubbed ‘Superstars of Magic 3’, is in its third edition.

The show is directed by David Lai, as were the other two shows.

He is one of Malaysia’s most prominent and unique entertainers and is also a magician himself.

The show’s magicians include two Americans — Ed Alonzo and “The Great” David Kaplan, while hailing from Belgium are Rafael (the show’s host) and Aaron Crow.

There’s also the “Double Fantasy” (husband-and-wife) team from Ukraine, Vitaliy and Yelena, as well as Frenchmen Jordan Gomez and Gaetan Bloom to complete the list of European magicians with Korean Lim Jae Hoon being the only magician representing East Asia.

Rafael is a good host who combines comedy with magic.

Lim, meanwhile, is creative as he magically produces doves from his props and makes them vanish before your eyes.

Bloom, in Malaysia for the first time, is a quirky act to watch.

The Frenchman is funny on stage, sometimes even surprising even himself.

While the name of the game is “Enter-tainment”, Alonzo, with his trademark Groucho Marx eyebrows and Harold Lloyd spectacles, makes the crowd roar with laughter with his antics.

Kaplan also incorporates comedy into his act with his supposedly 100-year-old ukulele and a bowling ball.

Vitaliy and Yelena incorporate romance and beauty into their illusions and have the crowd awestruck.

Gomez, a trendy young French magician, mesmerises the crowd with his speedy skills in making CDs appear and disappear from his hands and tricks from his ‘bag of tricks’.

Last but not least is Crow, who brings a serious touch to his magic, keeping the audience on the edge of the seat as he stares into the crowd, seeking volunteers.
