KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) has proudly announced that it has been able to learn, expand and enhance its understanding and experience of human cognition.
Its vice-chancellor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi said Unimas graduates were proof of this as well as of the university’s growth in the knowledge of cognitive science.
“We are proud that we are able to get employment in various industries, public and non-governmental agencies, throughout Malaysia and all over the world.
“In Unimas, we have accomplished many successes, especially with knowledge about how the minds of students learn.
“We are able to prepare, design and develop academic programmes that meet their needs and can better prepare them for the job market upon graduation,” he said at the launch of the International Conference on Cognitive Science (ICCS) 2013 here yesterday.
Mohamad said being in Sarawak, Unimas realised the importance of providing sufficiently qualified and well-balanced individuals to work in the various local and national projects.
He said cognitive science graduates were taught to be knowledgeable and able to apply this knowledge in activities or tasks that were related to their discipline.
“In addition, they are also groomed to lead and work as team members.
“They shall make significant impact on the human development aspect of projects and tasks that they partake, not because they know how to read minds, but they understand how the human mind works,” he said.
Mohamad said cognitive science helped one to explore the human brain and mind to the utmost.
He said Unimas offered these programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels since 1995.
