BATU PAHAT: The UTHM (University Tun Hussien Onn) library has been officially renamed in honour of Tunku Tun Aminah Sultan Ibrahim, the daughter of the Sultan Johor.
The ceremony was officiated by Tunku Tun Aminah herself at the library in UTHM in Parit Raja recently.
She also spent time visiting the library’s new facilities.
The library was opened in 1993 when UTHM was known as Pusat Latihan Staf Politeknik Batu Pahat (PLSP) with only 5,000 reading materials and 120 seats for reading.
The building was extended in stages since 2000 due to increasing student population and library users.
Last month, the library was shifted to a new building with 16,000sqft area that could house 300,000 reading materials and 3,000 library users.
Facilities in the new library comprises 100 carrel rooms, 40 discussion rooms, two seminar halls, research room, auditorium, information room, limited revision room, journal room and 24-hour reading rooms.
At present, the library has 200,000 monographs, 10,000 thesis, 40 journals, 50 magazines and 22,000 of audio visual units.
The five-storey library, built with green building concept, also subscribes 26 database, four e-books with 83,807 titles and 380 e-journals.
UTHM vice-chancellor Datuk Dr Mohd Noh Dalimin said the international facilities were also opened to public.
“We will ensure that the library will continue to benefit its users by keeping it up-to-date from time to time,” he said.
