New Teruntum assemblyman thanks his voters

KUANTAN: Newly-elected Terun-tum assemblyman Sim Chon Siang wasted no time to express his gratitude to voters who had voted for him in the just-concluded general election.

Just a day after the unexpected win, Sim was all smiles and went about to meet and shake hands with voters in Kampung Jawa market and other public areas.

He thanked the people and pledged to do his best to service the people for the next five years.

“I would not disappoint the people and is prepared to carry out my responsibilities immediately.

“The work load will be heavy but I am ready for the challenge,” he said.

Sim defeated incumbent Datuk Chang Hong Seong from Barisan Nasional in a straight fight.

He polled 12,385 votes against Chang’s 7,948 votes, winning with a majority of 4,437 votes.

Sim, 47, was born in Batu Pahat, Johor but migrated to Kuantan since young.

He completed his secondary education at SM Tanah Putih and SM Sultan Abu Bakar before obtaining a diploma overseas.

Sim is married to Phang Ching Min and the couple has four children.

Prior to joining the PKR in 2007, he was active in several non-governmental organisations.

He is also the special assistant to Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh and the Kuantan PKR service centre executive director.
