Help raise funds for KLPac

The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac) will be holding its inaugural Gala Fundraiser on Dec 22 and 23.

As funding from both public and private sectors is not forthcoming, the seven-year-old non-for-profit centre is reaching out to the public to assist in its annual RM3mil operational cost.

A combination of donations, bequests, arts grants and sponsorship can make up to 60% of an arts organisation’s income.

The 2008 economic crisis left KLPac with two out of the 12 sponsors it started with. It immediately rolled out a whole host of cost-saving measures and plans to boost revenue streams.

Despite its financial struggles, the not-for-profit has not slowed down in its mission to develop the arts.

Since opening, it has presented over 400 shows, housing thousands more. In 2009, 159 arts groups received subsidies from KLPac. In 2011 alone, it premiered 143 new works.

Its community initiatives such as its KLPac Orchestra has trained over 350 musicians.

All the proceeds will go towards sustaining KLPac as the entire team including artistes, crew and suppliers will be working on the event for free.
