USJ Lantern festival

IN conjunction with the Mid-Autumn Festival and Malaysia Day, Subang Jaya assemblyman and USJ community leaders will be hosting USJ Tanglung Festival 2012 today at Laman Sukan USJ 1, Subang Jaya. Apart from witnessing decorated trishaw parade, a variety of activities have been lined up for residents of USJ and surrounding areas.

Musical journey

Join the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) in a musical journey across China in three Family Fun Day concerts on Oct 6 at 3pm and Oct 7 at 2.30pm and 4.30pm at the Petronas Philharmonic Hall in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). Chinese conductor Tsung Yeh will lead the MPO in an exciting repertoire that presents evocation of the vast country, its culture, traditions, sights, sounds and smells. Staedtler Marketing Sdn Bhd will be organising a youth-based event today called the WOPEX Challenge 2012 at 1Utama Shopping Centre in Petaling Jaya. The event is aimed at introducing teenagers and young adults to experience Staedtler’s latest generation of pencils – WOPEX. High school, college and university students are invited to take on the exciting challenges throughout the day such as creative and sporty contests as well as activities, which will require participants to use both their creativity and physical strength. Samadee Studio is holding an art exhibition by famous Malaysian artist Loo Foh Sang at its studio at 6-1, Block 4, Jalan Jalil Jaya 4, Jalil Link, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur untill Oct 24. Pahang-born Loo received his education at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore and the Ecole National Superienre des Beairx Arts in Paris. In conjunction with the mooncake festival, the Petaling Jaya Municipal Council (MBPJ) and Chempaka Buddhist Lodge (CBL) is organising the Petaling Jaya Lantern Festival 2012 from 2pm to 11pm today. Various interesting activities have been lined up for the event, including a lantern-making competition themed Go Green, whereby participants are encouraged to use recycled items for their lanterns. Art Auction

The inaugural Indonesian and Malaysian Modern and Contem-porary Art Auction 2012 (pic right) will be held tomorrow at the Nusantara Ballroom, Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur. A full preview of 118 artworks will be showcased and an auction will be held from 1pm to 6pm. Some of the pieces displayed during the full preview include those by Malaysian artists who will have their artworks auctioned for the first time, such as Faizul Yusri, Ilham Fadhli, Ismail Mat Hussin, Goh Kwan Chin, Long Thien Shih, Multhalib Musa, Nik Rafin, Nizar Kamal Ariffin, Ilse Nor, Mohd Raduan Man, Tan Thean Song and Abdul Ghani Ahmad, among others.


In conjunction with the mooncake festival, Bangsar Village will be holding a ‘Moon Walk’ today near its lower ground floor entrance (Jalan Telawi Satu). Open to children aged 12 years and below, registered participants and parents get to enjoy a mooncake buffet and lantern give-aways.
