PETALING JAYA: MCA has slam-med a Johor Umno assemblyman’s proposal to implement hudud in the state.
MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek responded to Kemelah state assemblyman Datuk Ayub Rahmat’s proposal that hudud law be implemented in Johor for all races in a strongly-worded tweet.
“The Johor Umno Adun must have run out of ideas and out of his mind to propose hudud in Johor including non-Muslims. MCA will definitely object,” he tweeted.
Ayub was quoted by an online news portal as saying he wanted to see Johor become the first state to implement “true hudud law” which he claimed differed from PAS’ version of the religious law.
He said his proposed version would be non-discriminatory as it would cover all races in the state.
“The Syariah Criminal Code (II) 1993 State of Kelantan does not reflect the true requirements of Islam. It creates discrimination in terms of execution (among Muslims and non-Muslims),” Ayub told the portal.
He made the proposal on June 20 during the fifth sitting of the Johor state assembly.
Ayub said implementing such a move at the national level would require amendments to the Federal Constitution.
He said it was important to help non-Muslims understand the implementation of hudud law in Johor, as he claimed “PAS had failed to do so”.
