MCA has made good its promise to help SJK (C) Bercham by delivering the RM50,000 aid pledged to the school.
Accepting a cheque for the amount from Perak MCA secretary Datuk Tan Chin Meng on Wednesday, the school’s headmaster Yap Kim Fatt said the money would be used to set up the school’s Public Address System at three new classroom blocks and also, the multi-purpose hall.
“If we have money left, it will be used to upgrade the existing PA system at the older buildings in the school,” he told reporters on the sidelines of a Teacher’s Day celebration at the school.
During his visit to the school on Feb 19, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek had pledged RM50,000 towards the school’s building fund.
Prior to that, Yap said the school had — with Dr Chua’s help — managed to secure a RM3mil allocation from the Government to expand the school.
The school had recently undergone massive upgrading works to create 33 new classrooms to accommodate its 2,400-pupil population.
“The new classroom blocks, together with the multi-purpose hall and badminton hall, will be handed over to the school on June 15,” he said.
Yap, however, said the school still required RM1mil to furnish classrooms and to surface roads in the school compound.
“We plan to organise some fund-raising activities to collect the additional funds needed,” he added.
Earlier in his speech, Tan said the allocation given was from MCA’s Huaren Education Foundation.
