SARI DEE and Darul Affiah became the first two teams to qualify for the semi-finals in the Premier Division of the Football Association of Selangor League.
In the quarter-finals, played at the SUK ground in Shah Alam, Sari Dee edged UiTM 1-0 while Darul Affiah defeated Anak Kalumpang 2-0.
The match between Sari Dee and UiTM was an exciting one. UiTM were the fancied team and were expected to have it easy against Sari Dee. But Sari Dee played with confidence and did not allow UiTM to take charge.
Against the run of play, Sari Dee scored in the 12th minute through Mohd Hafiz Mohd Fazil.
The goal woke up UiTM and they dominated the match but were unable to score.
Darul Affiah, one of the pioneers in the FAS League, showed a lot of zest from the first whistle. Despite creating a lot of chances, both teams were unable to make them count.
After a scoreless first half, Darul Affiah broke the deadlock by scoring in the 54th minute through Ahmad Amli Zakaria. He was on target again in the 73rd minute.
Darul Affiah team manager Zulkifli Ibrahim said it was a close match but the players gave a better account in the second half.
“We also had to switch some of players for tactical reasons. And the plan paid off as we scored twice,’’ said Zulkifli.
Darul Affiah will meet Sari Dee in the semi-finals. Both teams met in the Division One final last season. And Sari Dee won on penalties.
Zulkifli said it would be an exciting semi-final and both teams were in good form.
The third quarter-final match is between Klang Gate and Kuala Selangor District FA.
The match will be played at the SUK ground in Shah Alam on Sunday.
The fourth quarter-final match will see Seranta take on Sharpees.
