FORMER international Mohd Abdul Hadi starred for Penyu Hockey Club in their 2-0 win over Kuala Lumpur Hockey Club A in the final of the Selangor Veteran Open hockey carnival at the Pandamaran Hockey Stadium in Klang recently.
It was an entertaining match as both sides had several seasoned players. Besides Mohd Abdul Hadi, Penyu HC had Mustaffa Ariffin and Ramli Muhammad while KLHC ‘A’ had goalkeeper M. Nadarajah, James Murthy and Michael Chew.

The inaugural carnival was organised by the Selangor Hockey Association (SIA) to bring together former state and national players.
Organising chairman P. Kuganesan, who is also SHA vicepresident, said they were pleased with the response for the carnival.
“Penyu HC came all the way from Terengganu. Likewise, we had teams from Ipoh and Seremban. More importantly, we had greats like Datuk G. Vijayanathan and former national coach C. Paramalingam as guests. Their attendance made the carnival an eventful one,” said Kuganesan.
The organisers also presented special awards to Kerdal Singh of Royal Klang Club and Selangor Police’s Raymond David, two of the oldest players in the carnival. Kerdal is 58 and David is 54.
The SHA next competition will be the Selangor Open eight a side competition on May 15-16 followed by the Champions schools competition on June 16-20.
