PETALING JAYA: The Selangor government, through its Yayasan Insan Istimewa Selangor (Selangor Special People Foundation or better known as YANIS), strengthened its commitment to elevating the agenda for persons with disabilities (PWD) by screening the environmental and awareness-themed film, Last Dive, here on Friday (Aug 21, 2026) night.
The screening event was made more meaningful with the presence of the Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, Sultanah of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, as the Royal Patron of YANIS, who graciously watched the film alongside the OKU community, special children, and their families during the special screening.
The Selangor State Executive Councillor for Women's Development and Community Welfare, who is also the Chairperson of YANIS, Anfaal Saari, stated that this work published by Produksi Seni 2020 Sdn Bhd is a three-pronged initiative that supports the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs) and the elimination of stigma against special groups.

She said the state government, through YANIS, is committed to empowering the agenda for the PWD, as well as eliminating stigma and discrimination against that group.
"We want to prove that with policy support, facilities, and technology, we can include people with disabilities in society, whether in recreational, entertainment, or cultural activities."
"The involvement of real icons and talents with disabilities in the production of this film proves that physical disabilities are not a barrier for them to explore their potential," she said at the film's screening press conference. "We want to eliminate the stigma against the disabled community."
The Chief Executive Officer of YANIS, Kamarul Hisham Yeop Hashim, informed that the special screening was held as a result of a suggestion from the production team through its Executive Producer, Dr Wendy Wong, along with Datuk Nancie Foo, two well-known divas in the Malaysian acting and entertainment industry.
According to Anfaal, Last Dive highlights the empowerment of PWDs through scuba diving activities that provide a gravity-neutral environment, allowing them to explore their capabilities without mobility limitations.
She also said that the involvement of real icons and talents with disabilities in the film's production proves that physical disabilities are not a barrier for them to explore their potential.
"YANIS hopes that this work will spark a paradigm shift in society to continue working hand in hand to create a more inclusive, safe, and sustainable environment for future generations," she added.

Also present at the programme were the Chairman of the Selangor Persons with Disabilities Action Council (MTOS), Danial Al-Rashid Haron Aminar Rashid; the Mayor of Petaling Jaya, Datuk Mohd Yazid Sairi; the Director of the Selangor State Social Welfare Department, Azmir Kassim; the Director of the Selangor State Education Department, Wan Nor Ashikin Abu Kassim; as well as strategic partners and guests.
Last Dive is an action-adventure film centred around Faiz, a former football player who is paralysed due to a hit-and-run accident, and Amelia, a scuba diving instructor dedicated to helping people with disabilities experience diving.
The conflict began when their boat driver, Kamal, was exposed for involvement in fish bombing and coral theft, in addition to being linked to the tragedy that changed Faiz's life.

This film also stars top local actors including Shiqin Kamal, Aniq Durar, Fify Azmi, Amerul Affendi, and Sandra Lim, as well as a special appearance by Datuk Dr Ras Adiba Mohd Radzi and singer Fauziah Latiff. Interesting to note, Sandra Lim, a 25-year-old Malaysian actress, model, martial artist, and beauty queen (Miss Universe Malaysia 2024), makes many taekwondo moves throughout, which further enhances the action sequences in the movie.
"This movie carries a very important message of how all of us must join hands together and do our part to save the environment and the deep blue sea. It is so important for our future," said Wendy and Nancie during the press conference. "It also carries a lot of weight that the roles the PWD can play in our community and how important roles they can play in our everyday life."
The duo added the special screening was held following Produksi Seni 2020’s proposal to connect with the PWD community and special children in Selangor with works that highlight their stories and potential. The movie is expected to make it to the big screens in the country in early December.
