IF YOU want to treat yourself to something special, you might do well to consider a feast of Malacca delights at Taman Sari Brasserie in Hotel Istana Kuala Lumpur.
Malacca is well known not only for its history but also for its flavourful dishes resulting from it being a cultural melting-pot. Malacca cuisine includes Portuguese, Nyonya, Chinese and Malay fare.
Taman Sari Brasserie is now featuring Malacca cuisine in its buffet promotion, and for this, it has commissioned a couple of talented guest chefs, who are endorsed by the Malacca Tourism Board, to tantalise diners’ taste buds with their speciality dishes.
Chef Augustine Nonis and his wife Shirley have 20-plus years of experience in dishing up original Malacca cuisine.
When asked the secret of the delicious taste of their food, the couple said they used home-blended spice mixtures to ensure the taste was original, but declined to elaborate.
Start your meal with some appetisers; the buffet features a range of acar, such as Acar Buah, Acar Nyonya and Acar Mangga.
For a healthy option, there is ulam, accompanied by a variety of dips like cincalok and home-made sambal belacan.
For the main courses, the couple are dishing up various popular dishes like Chicken Buah Keluak, Chicken Rice Ball with Condiments, Assam Pedas Kepala Ikan in claypot, and Sambal Belacan Melaka. And, of course, there is the state’s signature dish of Laksa Melaka, which is truly superb.
To round off the wonderful meal is an array of mouth-watering desserts and traditional sweets from the historic state.
Apart from the Malacca specialties, diners can also indulge in some international fare – Western, Indian, Oriental and Japanese – so there is something for every one.
Hotel Istana marketing communications manager Kenny Gordvyn said customer response had been very good thus far.
The 10-day promotion, which started on June 17, is available for lunch at RM72++ per person and dinner at RM82++ per person.
