Polar Holdings Pte Ltd executive director Timothy Chan said his grandfather Chan Hinky, who originally came from Hong Kong, started Polar Cafe in Singapore back in 1926.
“In the 1980s, we changed the concept to takeaway counters because of the high rent but we eventually revived the cafe concept,” said Chan.
