Market complex a boon for Puchong

PUCHONG’S first private wet market complex is now open at Puteri Mart in the Bandar Puteri township. 

The spacious, clean, and airy complex comprises a wet market section, shop lots, a food court, and a mini market selling sundry goods, herbs, and dry seafood. 

Developer IOI Properties Bhd owns and manages the complex.  

IOI Group property director Datuk David Tan Thean Thye said housewives and working women who favour a cleaner environment for marketing now have an alternative.

“Puchong is most commonly known for stalls by the roadside, but up until now, there has been no wet market complexes to provide an alternative for those who want to get their goods in a comfortable and hygienic place,” he said. 

“Puteri Mart is dedicated to Puchong’s new generation of shoppers, not just Bandar Puteri residents, but also those from nearby neighbourhoods like Kinrara, Bandar Puchong Jaya, Pusat Bandar Puchong, and 14th Mile Puchong,” said Tan. 

Shoppers are also provided with something beyond the norm as organic vegetables and corn-fed pork are available at the market.  

“What we have is fresh quality produce at reasonable prices,” said Tan. 

Promotions and marketing manager Stephanie Wong said there were also ample parking spaces for customers with about 240 outdoor bays, complete with 24-hour security.

“There are 49 wet stalls, 22 selling dry goods, 24 shop lots, and more than 50 stalls for the food court. The food court operates 24-hours and there is no duplicate stall selling the same food,” said Wong. 

The market itself opens from 7am to 10.30pm to cater to the household needs of many working women who could do their marketing after work. 

The complex was built at a cost of RM6.5mil, and would be officially launched in August.

Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) councillor Awtar Singh lauded the opening of a wet market complex. 

“This is a good facility for Puchong folks. However, it’s a pity it is only open until 10.30pm. I would like to urge IOI to consider opening it 24-hours as that would also cater to restaurants and shops that usually purchase fresh market supplies in the wee hours of the morning,” said Awtar. 

A new access road has also been built connecting the LDP and the Puchong 12th Mile Road to the township’s internal road at Persiaran Puteri 1. 

The 200m access road would provide an alternative link for road users who wish to get into Puteri Mart and other commercial shops without having to go through the hassle and traffic lights coming in from the Bandar Puteri Interchange and through the Giant hypermarket way. 

Awtar said those wanting to go to the right-hand side of Bandar Puteri around the commercial area are urged to use this new link that can be accessed via the main road.  

An RM8mil flyover is also being built along Persiaran Puteri in front of Giant to enhance traffic flow in future.
