KUANTAN: BASF Petronas Chemicals Sdn Bhd and the Kuantan Education Office signed a memorandum of understanding concerning education-based community outreach programmes for primary and secondary school students.
Among the agreed programmes were Kids’ Lab, Newspaper in Education and scrapbook contest, UPSR seminar, environment-themed drama competition and lingo race.
BASF Petronas Chemicals managing director Dr Hermann Brandt and its human resources director Suhaila Abdullah signed on behalf of the company.

The District Education Office was represented by district education officer Amiruddin Abdullah and assistant director (science and mathematics) Kamaruddin Taib.
In his speech, Brandt said the MoU was a manifestation of the company's long-term commitment towards sustainable development in balancing the needs of economic, ecological and social aspects for the future generation.
He said that nurturing the future generation was a long-term effort and had to be done collectively.
“We are gratified that the district education office shares the same aspiration in making this educational partnership a milestone for both parties,” he said.
Brandt said that RM50,000 would be allocated for the programmes annually.
