Melaka latest state to declare GISB teachings deviant

MELAKA: The Melaka Fatwa Committee has officially declared the beliefs and teachings of Global Ikhwan Service and Business Holdings (GISB) as deviant, making the state the fourth to take such a stance against the organisation after Perlis, Selangor and Pahang.

Melaka Mufti Datuk Abdul Halim Tawil said that the decision was made during a special committee meeting on Oct 3.

He said that the decision would be presented to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong soon.

"We have decided that the doctrine by GISB is contrary to shariah law and we are in the process of taking further action on the fatwa that we have discussed to be tabled in the council before and proceeding with the gazette.

"The Melaka Religious Department (JAIM) and the police are also taking enforcement actions," he said after attending a seminar at the Melaka International Trade Center (MITC) in Ayer Keroh, here on Mon (Oct 14).

He said from now on, all teachings and activities related to GISB in the state are prohibited.

Abdul Halim said that the model used by GISBH is a continuation of the outlawed Al-Arqam movement, which was banned in 1994 due to its teachings that conflict with the beliefs and laws of Islam in the country.

"We are also ready to assist GISB members who want to get out from the group through various approaches for the purification process.

"Now is the best time for GISBH members, including their families, to return to the right path," he said, adding that the exact number of members in the group is still unknown.
