Covid-19: Wanita MCA chairman tests positive

JOHOR BARU: Wanita MCA national chairman Datuk Heng Seai Kie (pic) has tested positive for Covid-19.

In a statement, Wanita MCA said Heng had started to quarantine at home and ceased all campaigning activities with Barisan Nasional in the Johor state election.

Wanita MCA said Heng's positive results were obtained from an RTK self-test kit, where she had been testing herself regularly on a daily basis, given her hectic campaigning schedule.

"All the results showed negative except on March 8, when she experienced Covid-19 symptoms of a cold and sore throat.

"She then immediately ceased all activities," it said, adding that Heng is in a stable condition.

Heng had requested Wanita MCA vice-chairman Datuk Lim Nget Yoon, who was also part of the Wanita MCA election steering committee chairman, to head all campaign activities in Southern Johor from March 9 to March 11.

Wanita MCA said even before nomination day on Feb 26, Heng had participated in many programmes organised by various MCA divisions.

"She also made frequent trips to and fro Johor for campaign purposes together with Wanita MCA central committee members," it said.

Aside from Heng, several candidates in the Johor state election, and also members of the media, had tested positive for Covid-19 since campaigning began on Feb 26.

The Johor state election has a 14-day campaigning period and polling is on March 12.
