IKEA Malaysia has announced that its new store in Cheras is expected to create more than 300 job opportunities.
The company says this marks the biggest Ikea recruitment exercise in the country.
Located on Jalan Cochrane, Ikea Cheras is set to accommodate various full-time and part-time positions across departments including sales, food and beverage, customer relations, logistics, and more.
“Ikea Cheras is part of our overall ambition to expand in South-East Asia. Having a diverse team is the foundation to prepare for a successful opening and ensure that our store runs smoothly. It is an exciting opportunity to welcome fellow Malaysians who share the same passion towards creating a better everyday life for the many people,” said Ikea Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand retail director Mike King.

Ikea stores worldwide have been employing people from all backgrounds, even making room for retirees, mothers and young students. Citing a report by the Department of Statistics Malaysia, the retail sector which is increasingly driven by the domestic demand, saw a growth of 10.7% in the first quarter of this year. This contributed to the overall rise of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) of 5.6%.
“Scheduled for opening by the end of this year, Ikea Cheras is ready to add a vibrant shopping destination to Cheras as we continue to provide Swedish home furnishings that are well-designed, functional and good to more customers” added King.
