In tune with junior football development

Good to go: The RSC Under-12 team with officials, sponsors and the organising committee at the launch of the RSC-Tune Under-12 international soccer 7s.

TUNE Insurance have come on board as the main sponsors for the Royal Selangor Club (RSC)’s junior soccer development programme.

They will contribute a total of RM100,000 sponsorship, in cash and kind, for this weekend’s RSC- Tune Under-12 international Soccer 7s as well as provide personal accident insurance for players, coaches, employed by RSC, committee members of RSC junior soccer development programme.

The insurance coverage will be effective during training at RSC ground in Bukit Kiara and also while participating in friendlies and competitions both in Malaysia and overseas.

The junior soccer development programme was initiated in 2002 with Milo’s support. Now the additional sponsorship from Tune Insurance, the RSC are looking at raising the programme to the next level.

Tune Insurance chief executive officer Junior Cho said they were looking forward to be associated with the programme for a long time.

“We are very excited to be part of RSC’s continuous development of young talents and support in creating avenues that integrate fun while at the same time strongly inculcate the habit of healthy living amongst our young. This opportunity could not be more fitting as it goes perfectly with our belief in developing the talent of children, honing their skills in sports and ultimately help ensure the livelihood of Malaysian football in the years to come,” said Junior.

The competition will see 16 teams, including two teams from RSC, in action. Ombak FC are the defending champions.

RSC junior soccer development programme chairman V. Kanagarajah said they were organising the competition for the 13th season.

“This is an annual tournament. Besides local teams we also have teams from Singapore and Australia taking part. We are excited to have Tune Insurance as our partners for this year,’’ said Kanagarajah during a press conference.

Also present at the press conference were RSC sports chairman Khong Chee Seng, RSC soccer section convenor Kavil Singh, organising chairman David Anthony, RSC-junior soccer development programme technical director V. Kalimutu, senior coach Datuk Santokh Singh and several ex-internationals including Vincent Thambirajah, S. Thanabalan, Ho Hon Seong and Datuk Chen Wooi Hwa.

Besides the Under-12 competition, RSC will also be hosting the Tigers’ International Soccer 9s. The championship has two categories - Masters Veteran tournament for 45 and above and the Grand Masters for 50 and above.

Johor’s Harimau Mega are the defending champions in the Grand Masters category while RSC are defending champions of the Masters tournament.
