A new category – men’s International – has been included in the Klang Executive Club (KEC) Unity Run at Port Tech Tower in Bandar Baru Klang tomorrow.
Organising chairman T. Kanniapan said they decided to have the category as they did not want to pit the locals against the foreigners.
“The foreigners, especially from Kenya, have been dominating the road races. In the past, we did not allow foreigners to be part of the event as it was an unfair competition to local participants.
“The organising committee decided to have a category for foreign runners this year. Let them battle among themselves for the top spots.
“We have received encouraging response and we are confident they will add excitement to the event.
“The event is organised to bring together residents in the Klang district for a healthy sporting activity,’’ said Kanniapan.
Participants in the men’s Open (Malaysians), men’s International and women’s Open (Malaysians) will have to complete 10km.
Those participating in the men’s Junior Veteran, women’s Veteran and men’s Senior Veteran will be action in the 7km.
Participants, in the men’s Junior and women’s Junior category, will have to cover 7km.
The organising committee have also included a Fun Run (family of minimum three participants) and wheelchair category .
The event is organised by the Acmar Group and the Council of Justice of Peace (JP) of Klang while the sponsors are Milo, Gardenia, 100 Plus, New Balance and KCLA design.
The Klang District Athletics Association will be providing the technical assistance while Police, Klang Municipal Council (MPK) and KPJ will support the event with volunteers.
Kanniapan said they were expecting about 3,000 participants.
“We are happy with the response. SJK (C) Kwang Hwa and Sri Acmar International School have registered 650 and 100 participants respectively. About 150 employees of Acmar Group have also confirmed their participation.
“There will be other activities for the participants as well as the public,’’ said Kanniapan.
