PUPILS of SK Bukit Damansara were introduced to the basics in athletics during the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) kids athletics programme.
The programme is an initiative by the Malaysian Athletes Federation (MAF), with support from the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) and SK Bukit Damansara Parent-Teacher Association, to encourage children, aged from nine to 11, to be active in athletics.
The programme was conducted by S. Anbarassu, a IAAF academy coach and lecturer, and team members from RMAF.
The children, divided into four groups – Red, Orange, Green and Pink – started the programme with a warm-up session.
The participants were introduced to a series of drills – sprint hurdle relay, Formula 1, frog jump, cross hop, medicine ball throwing and kids javelin throw – followed by a eight-minute endurance event.
The participants were also given the opportunity to watch a video presentation of kids athletics competition conducted internationally.
Olympian Datuk Shahrudin Mohd Ali, a SEAP Games medallist, presented certificates to all participants.
