MELAKA: A nationwide charity motorcycle ride organised by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s (UKM) Alumni Relations Centre to help underprivileged students has received a RM2,000 boost from one of the university’s former students.
CEO of Eyecon Group, Datuk Dr Murphy Chan presented the contribution during a courtesy visit by a UKM delegation to the historic city on Tuesday (Oct 6).
Chan, in his speech, said businesses had an important role to play in supporting education and community welfare.
“Through this contribution, we hope to play a small part in helping students who truly need support, while encouraging more alumni and businesses to give back to the community.
“Businesses can make a real social impact by actively supporting education and community welfare,” he said.
Chan said welcoming the delegation was especially meaningful given the university’s influence on his life.
“UKM has played an important role in my journey, and it means a great deal to welcome the UKM community to Eyecon,” he said.
He added that the visit allowed Eyecon and UKM representatives to exchange views on how the private sector and university alumni could work together to empower future generations.
The Jelajah Kasih programme runs nationwide from Oct 6 to 8, involving 20 motorcyclists supported by five secretariat members.
Funds raised will provide welfare assistance to underprivileged students, including accommodation support, water filters and laptops.
The programme also aims to strengthen ties between UKM and its alumni network while encouraging corporate and alumni support for its charitable efforts.
