Penang CM: Mobilise all efforts towards developing our nation
THE month leading up to National Day should serve as a reminder to all, including political parties and leaders, to emphasise the spirit of unity.
Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said all Malaysians should avoid statements or actions that could undermine national unity.
“I call on all to use the National Month celebrations as an opportunity to strengthen unity and avoid any statements or actions that could undermine national harmony.
“Malaysia cannot afford such negative actions.

“We should focus on strengthening the spirit of unity and loyalty to the King and country, so that we can mobilise all our efforts towards developing our nation.
“The celebration provides an opportunity for Malaysians from every corner of the country to express this patriotic spirit,” Chow said after launching the state-level National Month celebrations at Central Seberang Perai District and Land Office Hall.
About 1,000 staff from government departments and agencies gathered to kick off the state’s celebrations.
They sang patriotic songs such as Keranamu Malaysia and Jalur Gemilang before pledging their loyalty to the country.
Chow also urged Penangites to proudly fly the Jalur Gemilang at their homes, business premises, offices and on their vehicles throughout this month.
“Displaying the national flag reflects the history of struggle, sacrifice and unity that formed the foundation of the nation.
“Every citizen must continue to preserve and cherish the blessings of independence by striving to build a better future for coming generations.
“Flying the flag serves as a reminder that independence must be safeguarded and valued.”
Chow stressed that patriotism should not be seasonal and must instead be reflected in daily life through integrity, unity and contributing to the state, according to each individual’s respective roles.
He then presented the Jalur Gemilang to representatives of state and federal agencies as well as the private sector before flagging off the Penang Jalur Gemilang Convoy involving 18 participating agencies which proceeded to the second Penang Bridge to hand out flags.
