MOTORISTS can now use a new bypass from Taman Nusa Bayu to Taman Laman Setia in Gelang Patah, Iskandar Puteri in Johor to avoid traffic.
Iskandar Puteri mayor Datuk Hasrin Kamal Hashim said that under phase 1 of the two-lane road project, the 2km stretch would be open only during peak hours.
The opening hours are from 6.30am to 9am and 4.30pm to 8pm, he said.
The bypass was built to divert traffic in congested areas between Taman Nusa Bayu and Taman Laman Setia, which sit directly along the busy Gelang Patah-Ulu Choh and Pontian-Skudai connecting zones.
Tens of thousands of vehicles pass these residential roads daily, driven heavily by Malaysians or using the Second Link to work in Singapore, said Hasrin Kamal.
When announcing the July 1 opening of the road during Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) full board meeting last month, he said it was expected to shorten travel time, smoothen traffic flow and reduce congestion on main roads in the area.
“The new bypass will help alleviate traffic build-up right outside these neighbourhoods, as part of the solution we are taking to address rising commuter volumes and residents’ complaints,” Hasrin Kamal said.
“Iskandar Puteri is a hotspot when it comes to development, and developers are reporting good demand for their residential and commercial projects,’’ he added.
Iskandar Puteri is one of the five flagship development zones in the country’s first economic corridor, Iskandar Malaysia, launched on Nov 8, 2006.
The other four flagship zones are Johor Baru City Centre, Western Gate Development, Eastern Gate Development and Senai-Skudai.
