SIXTY-SIX nursery operators along Jalan Sungai Buloh will receive a one-off RM10,000 ex-gratia payment each as Selangor government moves to reclaim land for a long-delayed road widening project.
The site clearance is essential for the construction of an elevated road linked to the Kwasa Damansara development, which has been stalled due to land occupation issues.
State infrastructure and agriculture committee chairman Datuk Izham Hashim, in a statement, said the project had faced prolonged delays as the affected land was state-owned and occupied without ownership documents or official approval.
He said the site must be cleared immediately to allow construction to proceed.
“The state will provide a one-off ex-gratia payment to nursery operators as a facilitative measure to ease the clearance process,” he added.
“The payment is a goodwill gesture and does not constitute a recognition of ownership or permanent occupation rights."
The ex-gratia payment involves 66 plots directly affected by the road expansion works.
The payment process will be coordinated by an appointed implementing agency.
Izham added that following the payment and a stipulated notice period, site clearance would be carried out in accordance with existing laws to ensure no further disruptions.
The state government also stressed there would be no additional commitments, such as replacement sites or further compensation, beyond the RM10,000 payment.
In December 2024, The Star reported that several operators in the area had received eviction notices. Many claimed to have operated there for years and had appealed for state intervention.
